Shopfloor management based on Kanban boards helps companies to bring flow back into research and development. This is essential, especially when there is more work to be done. Our customer also experienced this.

Flow instead of congestion in development

Kanban and shop floor management for greater transparency
and efficiency in 130 truck development teams

The company

Our client is one of the most successful automotive companies in the world. The company is divided into the Cars, Trucks, Vans and Buses divisions. This project was carried out in the Trucks division.

The challenge

The company expected a significant increase in work for its development teams. The aim of this project was therefore to introduce a flow-oriented work organisation with a consistent implementation of the principles of shop floor management and the agile Kanban method in 130 development teams.

The approach

As part of the "Shopfloor Management" programme, key performance indicator boards were introduced for all department and division heads in the development organisation.

The aim of this project was the sustainable implementation of the agile Kanban method in all 130 development teams. This should make the organisation of team tasks more efficient and transparent. In addition, the process of independently optimising workflows and solving problems should be supported.

The introduction of the Kanban method was carried out by four consultants in parallel in a defined introduction process. After discussions with the managers and introductory workshops, the teams were coached for a period of two months each.
